This is the official Bettie Page, er, page, in which there is a delightful gallery of pictures and a short but good biography. I look at the Bikini pictures to cheer myself up when the world seems full of skinny bitches.

Who is Bettie Page??
Thursday, May 13th, 2010Alternating Fashion
Wednesday, May 12th, 2010So hey, I confess to a case of fashion schizophrenia…some days I”m Cybergirl, and some days I”m Glamour Girl. Really depends on what mood I”m in, whether the sun is shining, how long I”ve got to get ready to go out…
At the moment I”m going for pinup a little more often, since it”s a look I can work at the office with reasonable success – hah! – but seems to take a lot more hassle to get right.
Is it because Glamour is about the look – whereas Cyber is about the clothes?
I”ve got piles of Cyberdog, Dane 3000, Battery Organic and all those goodies, plus my trusty New Rocks, natch. Seems I can throw almost any of that stuff on, and I”m done – trying to channel Veronica Lake is NOT SO EASY!!
Still to master:
The hair. Oh God, the hair. How d”you get those waves??
Tops & jackets combos – gngh.
Pencil skirts? Check. Polka dots? Check. Cute heels? Check. Vintage accessories? Check.
So I”m getting there. I hope. Maybe one day I too will have a glamour glow…

Victorian Steampunk PC
Friday, July 31st, 2009As the maker says: “Fit for Her Majesty, somewhere in Torchwood House”…click on the pic to go through to the site showing how it was put together!
I absolutely ADORE this steampunk PC, but it is especially great to see how it was done. Craftsmanship and commitment, with no shortcuts. I wonder why they cannot speak of the pointing device? I bet you could probably track down a faux brass mouse somewhere or other…surely…?
The typewriter effect keyboard is a masterstroke (pun intended), although my favourite bit is the side sections of the monitor, and the little brass feet at the bottom. w00t!
Space Lego Photography
Friday, July 17th, 2009So this guy Mike Stimpson has made some really cute pics with Star Wars Lego. I really liked the American Beauty one, but this one made me smile:

Anyway, click here for the gallery
Goth Railway Children
Saturday, June 20th, 2009Props to Goths in Hot Weather – such a snarky blog but there are some classic goth pictures in it!
And yes, I *totally* agree that she gets steampunk points for the suitcase. So there.
The Ballad of the Bag and Hat
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009*sigh* Neil Gaiman has a cool assistant as well as being the coolest myth geek on the planet.
Even his baggage has exciting adventures.
Witness the epic battle of Lorraine as she tackles the airline staff – who turn out to be significantly less horrible than expected:

Wondrous.
Desperate bling…

Daft Movie Conspiracies…
Thursday, May 28th, 2009The lovely Empire Magazine has put together a list of the silliest conspiracy plotlines in films:
10 Most Ridiculous Move Conspiracies
I especially enjoyed the summary of ”Coma” – “What”s the plan? To flog the organs of coma-induced hospital patients to the highest bidder, deterring suspicious types with a handful of henchmen and outlandish 70s synth noises. ”
I”ve never been a massive Bond fan, partly because they”re so damn silly, but I did enjoy Piers Brosnan”s rule while it lasted. Craig does NOT work – he”s just too crass and noisy. IMHO.
Time for tea in the garden!
Bank Holiday Mondays…
Monday, May 25th, 2009So it”s been a *fabulous* weekend, we went to Wembley to watch the Coca-Cola footy playoffs, sat in a pub garden in the sunshine, went for a walk along the Thames, then came back North. Today it is just raining, raining, raining!
That said, it”s International Towel Day! This is a special day celebrating the work of Douglas Adams and his Hitchhiker”s Guide To The Galaxy books.
Everyone’s a winner
Sunday, May 10th, 2009I’m a big believer in micro-credit making a huge difference to people who need a hand-up, not a hand-out. Not just in the developing world, though, it seems:

But these guys are pretty cool, ‘ending poverty through business’, some great case studies too:
